Questions & answers

The things people ask us.

Grouped so you can jump to what matters to you — whether you're brand new to lawn care, rescuing a neglected lawn, or already on a programme.

General questions

Why choose a small independent over a national franchise?

Because your lawn isn’t a national spec sheet. As an independent, we’re not tied to head-office product mandates — we choose treatments to match your soil, your grass and your problem. You also get the same two people, Denton and Lewis, every single visit, rather than a rotating pool of technicians who’ve never seen your lawn before. Several of our customers came to us after being let down by exactly that.

Are you qualified to apply lawn treatments?

Yes. Mr Lawn is fully qualified in the safe use of pesticides and spraying equipment, which means we can safely and legally use professional-grade products that aren’t available over the counter. Denton trained professionally in lawn care after leaving corporate life, and between the team and our affiliates there’s over twenty years of experience.

Do I need to be home when you visit?

No — as long as we can get to the lawn, you don’t need to be in. We’ll let you know before we come and send you a written note after each visit explaining what we did and how your lawn is responding, so you’re never left wondering what happened while you were out.

How much does it cost?

It depends on the size and condition of your lawn, which is exactly why we start with a free survey rather than a phone quote. We’ll give you a clear, written plan and pricing after we’ve actually seen your lawn — no obligation.

Renovation & problem-lawn questions

My lawn is more moss and weeds than grass — is it worth saving?

Almost always, yes. Most tired lawns don’t need digging up and re-laying — they need scarification to pull out the moss and thatch, aeration to relieve compaction, overseeding to thicken the grass, and a season of proper feeding and weed control. That renovation route is a fraction of the cost of new turf, and it’s the work our reviews describe restoring lawns ‘to their former beauty’.

How long until I see a difference?

You’ll see visible improvement within 14 days of your first treatment — that’s our guarantee (see below). A full recovery from a badly neglected lawn takes a season or two of treatments, because we’re rebuilding it from the soil up rather than papering over it. Customers like Oli have watched their lawns transform over 18 months and stay looking good through wet winters and dry summers.

My lawn was ruined by building work / drought — can you help?

Yes, that’s some of the most common work we do. Renovations after house building, a very dry summer, or a previous aggressive treatment are exactly what a full-year renovation plan is designed for. One customer’s lawn, ‘ruined by house renovations’, is now lush and green and has since survived a drought and a wet winter.

Ongoing care questions

Am I tied into a contract?

No lock-in. The Full-Year Lawn Programme™ is four seasonal treatments across the year, but we earn your continued custom visit by visit. The reason people stay for years — some for well over 18 months and counting — is the results and the service, not a contract.

Are your treatments safe for children and pets?

The products we use are professional lawn treatments applied by a qualified operator, and we’ll always advise you on how long to keep children and pets off the lawn after a treatment — usually just until it’s dry. Because we apply at the correct rate rather than guessing with an off-the-shelf box, treatments are used safely and precisely.

Will you remind me when a treatment is due?

Yes. You’ll get a reminder before each seasonal visit and a written report afterwards — one customer specifically mentions that he ‘gets reminders when treatment is due’. You’re never chasing us, and nothing gets missed.
